  • “Friend Cabrinety: Do you remember that two years ago, when I saw the illustration of your first work, I predicted that you would make us all run? Well, today when I saw the illustration of ‘Morriña’ I tell you that my prophecy has been fulfilled and that this is one of the best illustrated books I have ever seen. For this, then, your most affectionate friend congratulates you cordially. Apelles”. With these words the prestigious Apeles Mestres referred to the illustrations that José Cabrinety made for Emilia Pardo Bazán’s novel. The illustrator, self-portrayed in this drawing, began his career very young and worked for the publishing houses Cortezo, Heinrich or Subirana.
