Vicente Rodés Aries was one of the most important portraitists of the 19th century and was noted for his exceptional mastery of the pastel technique. Trained in Alicante, Valencia and Barcelona, he became an essential portraitist of the booming Barcelona bourgeoisie from the 1920s onwards.
