On the occasion of the theatrical performance offered by the French ambassador, Pierre-Paul d’Ossun, to the Spanish Court in 1764, to commemorate the marriage between the Infanta Maria Luisa of Bourbon and the Archduke Leopold of Augsburg-Lorraine, Charles de La Traverse designed a set of costumes exceptional both for their originality and uniqueness within the History of Art. Our study analyzes this set of drawings, as well as the socio-cultural circumstances in which it was conceived, paying special attention to the artist – Charles de La Traverse -, gentleman of the ambassador’s chamber and authentic rococo genius.
