Ismael González de la Serna
(Guadix, 1898–Paris, 1968)
Fantasy Portrait

Grease pencil and India ink on paper
310 x 230 mm
Trained between Granada and Madrid, a friend of Lorca and Ángeles Ortiz, Ismael de la Serna found in the Old masters a clear reference point for his compositions, halfway between cubism and surrealism. In his imaginary we find references to Arcimboldo and Tiepolo, with whom this portrait of a kind of Bedouin in which he combines cactus, fabrics and organic forms to create a fantastic face is connected.
