The grandson of the engineer Narcís Monturiol, a pioneer of underwater navigation, Enric Pascual abandoned his engineering studies to devote himself to art, probably under the influence of his mother, the painter Anna Monturiol, a pupil of Ramón Martí Alsina. Despite his premature death, Pascual Monturiol left a solid body of work in which the exaltation of the work of the humble classes and their heroism is evident in drawings of great gestures, volume, and strength.
